Drug Drop Box/Unused Medication Disposal
Unwanted or unused medication kept at home may make you a target of thieves looking to fuel their drug habit or family members trying to take advantage of you. We know it is easy for old medication to pile up, especially after you have recovered from a serious illness.
In early 2014, the Little River County Sheriff’s Office installed a Prescription Drug Drop Box. Citizens are allowed to come into the LRCSO Monday thru Friday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and dispose of unused or unwanted prescription drugs. There are no questions asked during the disposal of the medication, we only ask not to include any needles. There is also a permanent drop box out front of the Sheriff's Office for anyone wanting to drop off unwanted/unused medications after hours.
We strongly encourage participation in this program and feel it will help limit the access to medication by thieves or family members. We do not recommend flushing the medication down the toilet or throwing it in the trash.
